Books for Change was created to meet the demand for reading material regarding diversity through ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender identity to schools within the Coastal Empire.
Children often believe the world is a replication of what they see in literature and media, but what if these replications do not truly reflect reality?
Underrepresentation of minority groups is a common theme in children's books. This was the driving force behind the creation of Books for Change.
By normalizing diversity, we not only create a space of inclusion to the child who might otherwise experience being outcasted for their differences, but the child is able to accept and celebrate those special traits that make them different.
