Coastal Health District, and Savannah, GA LBGT Center to hold free testing event for National HIV Awareness Day

Know Your Status!

In observance of Gay Men’s HIV/AIDs Awareness Day, the Coastal Health District will be offering free confidential testing at the Savannah LBGT Center on September 25 from 2-7 p.m.

The event is presented by Project P.O.W.E.R. Launched in 2008, Gay Men’s HIV/AIDs Awareness day was to focus on the impact that human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) and Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome( AIDs) has on the Gay and Bisexual community, whom are most susceptible to contracting the virus. Studies have shown that 1 in 6 men that have sex with other men ( MSM) are living with HIV and do not know it. The event will utilize the INSTI HIV test, a rapid point-of-care test that delivers reliable results within 60 seconds.

Project P.O.W.E.R. (Protecting Ourselves With Every Resource) is an initiative of the Georgia Department of Public Health's Coastal Health District to stop the spread of HIV and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Managed by The First City Network, The Savannah LBGT Center is an inclusive advocacy, social, and service organization actively working to meet the needs for safety, empowerment, education, and well-being of Savannah’s LGBTQIA+ community. In compliance with the citywide order, all patrons are required to wear a mask or face covering.

Those experiencing Covid-19 symptoms are advised to not attend.
